WHAT IS IT?

The TI-84 Graphing Calculator, with Cabri, Jr., is hand- held technology and dynamic, visual software connecting mathematics and geometry. They are most useful in a classroom setting where abstract math concepts are taught in a concrete mode. These innovations do basic arithmetic, solve equations, construct geometric figures and perform operations. It can explore, use, graph and evaluate functions, inequalities, and probabilities. The analysis of statistical data is also possible. Education.ti.com is the reference site for teacher training, classroom activities, and product purchase.
If you are looking for a comprehensive description of the TI-84 calculator, Math.about.com, is the site you want. This hardware, compared to earlier tools, can benefit a finance math student or a pure math student.
Ebay.com has the best prices for these calculators, if you can rely on being the highest bidder! BIZ Rate.com is the low price competitor, though, with local stores. Prices are compared on- line continuously.

HOW TO USE IT!

The calculator itself is useful in the study of all mathematics and science courses. Hook the calculator up to a “data–grabbing device”, (CBLs or CBRs), to explore linear properties of real-world data sets and make concepts like slope more visual and understandable!
There are simulations and motion graphing available with this innovation. Activities, worksheets and tutorials that support the mathematical topics; slope, distance formula and linear systems can be accessed from Archives.math.utk.edu.

An example of Cabri, Jr., integrated into a lesson, can be found at Education.ti.com, click on Getting Started in Geometry.

Step-by-step tutorials on “how-to-use”, practice exercises, and the integration of the Cabri, Jr. geometry software is published on the hotmath.com website. This link can be used on the TI 83 or 84 graphing calculator. This is a great tutorial!

This is a great review of how graphing calculators and apppropriate software
can be used to enhance learning for students. Content is in-depth wiith some great sources of information for someone who is new to Cabri or TI. Very well organized,
with embedded resources throughout - no mechanical errors - and appropriate graphics. Well done! JAK
